Gergely Karácsony

Gergely Karácsony (46) is a green, left-wing politician, Mayor of Budapest, and co-chair of the Dialogue (Párbeszéd) party. This year he’s running in the united Hungarian opposition’s pre-election process to become the opposition’s prime minister candidate in the 2022 national elections. He was elected Mayor of Budapest in October 2019 as the joint candidate of five Hungarian opposition parties. Previously he served as Mayor of Budapest’s 14th district (2014-2019) and MP of the LMP party (2010-2013). He is a sociologist and former university lecturer by profession specializing in electoral behavior, election campaigns and electoral systems.
